should take guidance from higher judiciary: Arif Alvi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr
Arif Alvi has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)
recommending that general elections be held by November 6, seeking guidance
from the higher judiciary to hold elections in the national and provincial
assemblies on the same day. On the other hand, caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul
Haq Kakar said that the date of general elections will be given by the Election
Commission, the President has proposed the date, the delimitation is also part
of the constitutional, election process, PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the
Election Commission has already said that President Alvi does not have the
authority to give the date of the election, there is no dispute between the
political parties. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Farooq Sattar said
that President Alvi should not show favoritism, ANP leader Zahid Khan said that
the president’s letter is a political move, his attitude is not neutral, PTI
says that the president performed constitutional duty, while the PML-N said
that the president’s letter does not matter, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
says that if the president Pml-N leader Rana Sanaullah said that the
president’s letter has no significance, the president did not take into account
the requirements of his office, the president did not have the authority to
give the date of the election, the president could not say that i did not have
the power to give the date of the election. The Election Commission is bound to
hold elections. Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi has written a letter to Chief
Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, saying that the general
elections should be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, the 89th day of the
dissolution of the National Assembly. According to a notification issued by the
Presidency, the President dissolved the National Assembly on August 9 on the
advice of the Prime Minister, under Article 48(5) of the Constitution, the
President has the power to fix a date within ninety days from the date of
dissolution for the conduct of general elections in the Assembly. It should be
on November 6, 2023. The President said that in order to fulfill the
constitutional obligation, the Chief Election Commissioner was invited for a
meeting so that the method of implementing the Constitution and its order could
be devised.
