Case Study on Surgical Site infection
Case Study
Question
1:
What is the direct and Indirect impact of the surgical
site infection that happened to Fatima, her family, and the hospital.
Direct
Impact:
The improper
infection prevention protocols at hospital and negligence by surgeon for a
continued antibiotic cover in the first place left Fatima, in more misery to
develop pus with painful swelling & lifelong deformity and that too of her dominant
right arm and obviously of septicemia which left her ending in ICU for a month
appears it nearly took her life.
Indirect
Impact:
Fatima & her family were left in misery when mother had
to leave minors at home.
Being a girl and growing up in our societal context with a
defected arm will affect her not only work and career but also difficulty in
acceptance when she reaches the age to be married.
She will never be able to put her full potential for any type
of work.
And the hospital including surgeon and the team left bad
reputation to Fatima’s family and the community in the village she came from.
And if it was a public sector hospital, it further adds negative impression and
lack of faith to the notion that public sector hospitals cannot provide quality
health care.
